Region at a glance 667 km North of Perth It doesn’t get any more outback than the Shire of Murchison. These ‘Ancient Lands Under Brilliant Skies’ are home to stunning pastoral stations, wildflowers and Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory. Covering 49,500km², with a population of just 102. There are 2,000km of roads, 90% unsealed, a road-trip through Murchison is sure to take you down the road less travelled. Main Event Murchison Camp Oven Muster 2026 – 31st July and 1st August The Muster is a weekend of hearty food, great company, and true outback hospitality. Held in the region’s heart, it offers a rare chance to connect with locals through hand-picked experiences that showcase the spirit of Murchison life.
Places to visit Murchison Settlement Australia’s only Shire without a town, a peaceful base for disconnecting. With around 20 residents, it offers nature walks, museum history, birdwatching, sunsets, starry skies, and more. Oasis Roadhouse and Caravan Park The Oasis offers hearty meals and comfortable stays, with motel rooms, powered and unpowered sites in lush surrounds. Enjoy the pool, tennis, lawn bowls, and explore the Settlement. Errabiddy Bluff and Outcamp Just 15km west, Errabiddy Bluff’s striking rock formations are ideal for a day trip, picnic, or barbecue. Stay to enjoy spectacular night skies.
Bilung Pool and Wooramel River Gorges Along Carnarvon–Mullewa Road, relax by Bilung Pool, then visit Wooramel River Gorges, an impressive inland river system. Old Stock Well Fifty-five kilometres south, a restored stock well used by drovers offers a picnic spot to reflect on the area’s history. Ballinyoo Bridge Further south, a preserved span of WA’s oldest concrete bridge stands as a historic marker beside its modern replacement. There is an abundance of wildlife and wildflowers you could spot kangaroos, emus, eagles, red tailed black cockatoos, and other birds.
